This 2 part workshop teaches single colour emulsion process for paper or textiles. This is the perfect workshop for those wanting to screen print their own drawings, photos or digital illustrations, start a DIY street wear label or learn a trade skill.
Week 1: (2.5hrs)
– Overview of emulsion screen printing
– Learn best practices for cleaning and prepping screens
– About the darkroom setup and using emulsion
– Coating screens with emulsion
– Drying coated screens
– The design (illustrate by hand or use digital images to create a design, byo laptop for digital designs)
– Print film positive of design
Week 2: (2.5hrs)
– Expose screens in UV exposure unit
– Wash out screens to reveal design
– Setting up a print space
– START PRINTING
– Drying prints
– Reclaim screen
Students who attend this workshop are then eligible to hire the studio and the A.A.A.S. screen printing equipment to use outside of workshop hours. (conditions apply and prices vary according to requirements).
Although card, calico material and some tote bags are provided for test printing, participants are encouraged to bring along blank tees etc to print if they prefer to print fabric over paper. A.A.A.S. has some blank shirts for sale in the shop ($8 per item). Totes are available for $3 per bag or 4 for $10. Card stock is supplied (20 sheets per students, additional sheets 0.30c per A3.
If students would like to purchase their emulsion burnt screen printing frame to take home they are available for $50. Size 40x50cm (suitable for up to A3 size artwork).
Max 5 students per workshop. Adults (suits 16yrs+)
This course needs a minimum of 2 participants to run.
Total 5hr workshop. Suitable for beginners – intermediate screen printers and those wanting to recap on the process. All materials and snacks included. BYO drinks.
At checkout, in the message box, please state if you wish to screen print textiles (fabric) or paper. These processes require different mesh counts on the screen, students will only be able to pick 1 during this workshop for the emulsion process.
